SANDY SPRING BANK INSPIRES TEAM MEMBER UNITY WITH NEW EMPLOYEE BENEFITS GUIDE

Sandy Spring Bank is a community bank headquartered in Olney, MD. Their high level of customer service, strong leadership, and work in the local communities have been recognized with several ‘Best Places to Work’ and ‘Best Banks in the Country’ awards for several years running.

CHALLENGE:

Sandy Spring Bank is proud of its status as a preferred employer in the greater Baltimore and D.C. area. The bank requested assistance with its strategy for attracting and retaining employees to help maintain its status as a preferred employer.

 

SOLUTION:

Through our discovery process, Stackpole worked with leaders of the bank to establish a unified employer brand strategy articulating to employees and prospects why working at Sandy Spring is a great career choice.

Unleashing an underutilized asset

Sandy Spring Bank has a unique and earnest focus on its customers and the community. Everything the bank does is committed to them. The bank’s goal is to make every interaction with their customers and the community a positive and memorable one.

 

Stackpole created a unified communications strategy and employee rallying cry – “Be Remarkable” – that could help clarify, unify, and, most importantly, inspire its employees to embrace this shared purpose.

Connecting employee benefits and compensation to a shared vision

Working with HR leadership, Stackpole created a new employee benefits guide that would be distributed to all employees and also shared with new job candidates. Rather than the traditionally factual benefits brochure, Stackpole recommended creating a piece that would inspire its employees by infusing all the bank offers its employees with a not so subtle reminder of why employees are so well compensated and taken care of at the bank. Gary Fernandes, EVP and Chief Human Resources Officer puts it this way, “Our employees are passionate, work hard, and look after each other. We are a family. They not only deserve to be rewarded for their efforts, but we feel they should also be reminded of the real purpose behind why we all choose to work here – it’s to be the bright spot in our customer’s day. To be a beacon of what it means to serve the communities where we live and work. And to serve each other. In short, to be remarkable.”

This interactive PDF of the 2023 Total Rewards guide was the initial piece of communications Stackpole launched this year.

 

Plans for social campaigns and digital acquisition campaigns, a revised Careers website, employee training materials and some specific employee engagement metrics tied to “Be Remarkable” are also in development.
